WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

In short, community leaders. We recognize that leaders come from a variety of roles across the community. We've designed these workshops to serve & create a dialogue between any and all of the following:
- Elected officials (city council, mayors, etc.)
- City managers and finance directors
- Planning directors, city engineers and other department heads
- Economic development folks
- Local/small developers
- Strong citizens (this is anyone who cares enough about their community to get involved, regardless of background!)

Every city has a story.
Every community is full of people who play important roles.
Each one of us needs to understand WHY what's broken is broken, and HOW we can do our part to help fix it.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS WORKSHOP?

This is a two-day workshop. Here's how it breaks down:

Day 1. Harrison Center.
WHY WE NEED TO CHANGE.

Learning objectives:
1. Understand & explain why the way we’re currently building and managing our cities is not sustainable.
2. Clearly understand how the pieces fit together in a city—the players involved, the processes that have to be followed, the decisions that get made, and where & how you can contribute.
3. Learn an alternative approach that brings people & perspectives together to grow community capital & economic resilience.

Topics discussed include
- The impact of growth & development approaches on long-term fiscal solvency & environmental sustainability
- Growing thriving local businesses and a strong local workforce
- Incremental development for a more inclusive & financially resilient city
- Real, ongoing, & meaningful citizen engagement
- Human-scale design
- Creating diverse & authentic partnerships across the community
