Description

Immigrants to the United States bring their religion, art, and culture with them, but connections to these things change over time. You are invited to listen in as Hindu youth and elders discuss and debate the evolution of their culture in America.

Event Details

When a person decides to migrate to another country, they embark on a major turning point – a major revolution –in their life. That immigrant then brings their history, faith, and culture to their new home. But in the struggle to adapt and survive, connections to the past fade and cultural and religious practices evolve. The Hindu Temple of Central Indiana is asking itself whether these changes – this “evolution by revolution” – is good or bad. How can first-generation immigrants and their next-generation children and grandchildren remain connected to their faith and heritage in modern American society? The wider community is invited to listen and learn from this discussion between Hindu elders and youth.
This event will immediately follow religious services that end at noon. Guests are invite to arrive at noon, purchase lunch (opitonal, $5), and participate in the event beginning at 12:15pm.

PRESENTED BY:Hindu Temple of Central Indiana, Geeta Mandal, and Hindu American Vanaprasthi Network.
